The Winter Break
We didn’t come expecting summer sun but it HAS been rather chilly the last week here in Galera. That hasn’t stopped us having fun however. Over the weekend we’ve had our niece and two of her friends stop with us and just dropped them back off at the bus station in Granada today.
We had a few nice nights out and done a load of repairs and the place is now in good shape. Maureen has been catching up on her TV and reading, I’ve been learning how to program the brand new Raspberry Pi 2 – which is now powerful enough to be worthy of some serious attention (endless blethering on that subject here). Amazing what a few days of peace and quiet away from the phone and work emails can do for you.
Tomorrow we’re taking it easy – a trip to the skips and perhaps downtown for coffee and Maureen is off to see some friends in the afternoon. The temperature here in Galera is still largely down in the one-figure range but there was not a cloud in the sky today and that makes up for a lot. Red sky tonight so either there’s a farmhouse burning somewhere or we’re in for another good day tomorrow.
Things are looking up
Check out the line over on the right, with a couple of days to go, outside temperature rising, since we put the heating on inside temperature rising, humidity dropping – it’s 15c in there and with any luck by the weekend it should be up to 19c – a nice wood fire will soon make that cosy. Looking forward to it.
Winter woes
Just a matter of days now before we’re back in Galera. I note it’s bloody cold there and our Pergola needs a little loving care. If anyone wants to take a hammer and flat-top nails over – that would be a nice welcome… the wind has gotten to it. It seems there’s no escaping the cold as I’m in London right now and it is BITTER here, but apparently worse in the Northeast with snow.
Caves Retain a Constant 18c
Remember the sales talk about caves remaining at a constant temperature? We all had it? Well, I can finally lay that one to rest… the RED line is internal temperature, blue external and green is humidity over the last month or so… the temperatures incidentally are not unsimilar to blighty – it’s just a lot wetter and more miserable in the UK right now.
Slowly but surely
Sadly, we know where this is heading after such a marvelous summer… still – I’d rather this than British weather. The blue line is the external (outside – shielded from the sun hence accurate) temperature at the top of the hills around Galera – the green line is the internal humidity in our cave which will be lower than the outside. Still peaking 25c mid-day which is marvellous… it’ll be down to 20c before long as the change is fairly consistent over the month. Just ordered a moisture sensor – the idea being to put it in one of the plant-pots to monitor the watering system. I have to say, despite the variability of Spanish electricity, this has performed flawlessly all month. That hike in humidity levels around the start of the month never did go away.
