This versatile, powerful yet simple to use GL-iNET 4G router can be used several ways.
Firstly as a 4G router – it can provide Ethernet and WIFi outputs – far more than a simple MiFi unit yet not much bigger.
Spitz initial setup – wirelessly – turn on – leave on for a minute or two – hold in the tiny reset button for 10 seconds until the indicator is flashing quickly. Within another couple of minutes you should have 2 new WiFi access points on your phone. Default WiFi password is goodlife. Ensure your phone is using the first access point – then in settings on your phone – go to 192.168.8.1 and access the control panel. Select ENGLISH and NEXT.
Create a new admin password – I use Pass123 for testing only (and temporarily untick “prevent weak password”.
At this point you can power off and insert a SIM (I suggest DIGI). You now have the simplest 4G router with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels. You can add 2 GUEST WiFi channels if you want – and you can rename all SSIDs and passwords.
By default the Spitz has a WAN connector and a LAN connector. For 4G use you can change the settings (EASILY) to have 2 LAN connectors. If you want to run this alongside another network, leave the WAN connector as is which give you one LAN connector.
You can of course change the base address from 192.168.8.1 to any common internal address range.. For example 192.168.12.1 etc.
I have several friends who have had issues with MiFis and other 4G routers only allowing a certain number of connections at once. Easy. If you have lots of devices (I have upwards of 50 devices at any time) use this 4G router to feed a standard router – Lan on the SPITZ2 to WAN on the normal router. You can of course then turn the WIFI off on the Spiitz2 if your normal router has WiFi hence removing any 4G router device limits. This effectively isolates your devices from the 4G network (you could leave the Spitz at 192.168.6.1 and your normal router might be 192.168.1.1
That’s the simple setup done – for far more you can go to GL-iNET’s excellent website https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/en/4/user_guide/gl-x750/ – anything you could want to know is on their website. The router is OpenWrt-based with GL-iNETs own easy-to-use front end – the OpenWrt LUCI interface is available if you want it.
Complete with a 12v power supply – no box. Near-perfect condition.
