It’s Thursday, time for the Huescar market. After a late start, due in no small part to overdoing the alcohol on Wednesday night, I set off for the market in brilliant sunshine. Hardly a cloud in the sky.

Not as many people as usual out today but it’s early summer so I guess most of the summer home folks won’t be here yet, though I did stop and chat with three sets of friends while walking through the market. I picked up essentials for lunch and headed off, determined not to miss the opportunity for a spot of sunbathing and still struggling to get used to the sandals having worn thick soled boots for the last several months.

It’s still a little cool inside but outside at lunchtime the temperature was up to 26c.  Came in to check the mail to find that Dell have at last put up my first blog entry – and interview. Here’s the Dell blog. Put down a little more weedkiller as some of the larger weeds that I’d failed to pull out by hand were sitting looking stubborn – let’s see how they manage against concentrated Pathclear!

And that’s that, really, can’t do much until Maureen turns up with the bits I need for my remote temperature monitoring project… which I’m hoping to leave here, working. All that’s left to do this afternoon is a little more sun-collecting! As usual, click on any photo to enlarge.

Yesterday morning we headed off to the Thursday Huescar market. As we passed a bank offering the advert “we speak English” I began to wonder how many of our banks advertise “we speak French” or “we speak Dutch” or whatever. I suspect very few.

We had our usual Thursday morning “Churos” – a strange sausage-shaped fried dough extraction with coffee (some have it with hot chocolate) and spent the morning enjoying the market and the many meats and wide range of fruit on offer. We ended up leaving with some very nice olives which are now, sadly, largely eaten!

In the afternoon I managed to get a little time in the sun.  I also took our Meganne for a spin – it’s first trip up and and down the hills since we got it back – seems absolutely fine – I’ve a little more confidence it will be ok – which is more than one can say for Maureen’s phone – but that’s another story here.

The evening started well with the usual Brits down at the Galera Hotel then on to Pizza Posa – but after a while we saw something we’d almost forgotten about – rain!!! The first significant rain in Galera with a considerable amount of thunder and lightning in the background. Still not in the same league as British rain but wet non-the-less and this brought the temperature down to the 20s where it looks set to stay for a couple of days.

I am determined to get to grips with the Spanish language – much as our largely British friends are great – I’m sure we’re missing something by not also getting involved with the locals. I can must about manage “beer and a hamburger but no lettuce for me” but that and a few other tricks are just about it… must try harder.

We had to take a short trip to Huescar today (just a few miles away from our town of Galera) before heading off to the pool… and decided to go to the park and have lunch. I have to say the food was good and they had a watering system spraying a very fine mist into the air – works a TREAT for cooling off.

Next time we’re at the garden centre I’m picking up some of the spray heads! While there we did a spot of shopping and spotted this strange little red car – note no number plate on the front and a tiny one on the back. Weird. I’ll be it’s efficient, though and great for bombing up and down the hills.

The park, incidentally if you’re in the area and have a little time – is great, a marvellous way to waste half an hour or so sheltered from the strong sun.
