What’s this about?
This is Peter and Maureen Scargill's Spanish website. We live in Galera in Andalusia (for clarity, that is the English spelling - Mid-Spain they spell it Andalucia and pronounce it "And-a-loo-thee-a").

We've had a home in Spain for more than 14 years and it is now our permanent base though we retain a small home in the UK.

Find out more about this by reading through the blog entries, menu-accessible pages and archives if you're interested! Welcome to Peter and Maureen's Spanish website.

Pool and Tapa

This entry covers our trips this weekend to Orce pool and the Huescar Ruta De La Tapa with friends. In this late-June heat, anything more energetic has to be saved for early in the morning or later in the evening. For anyone looking in and not familiar with the area, our home town of Galera is 90 minutes drive Northeast of the city of Granada in Southern Spain and Orce “Piscina Natural” or pool is around 8 minutes drive south-east from Galera whereas Huescar is just 12 minutes drive up north.

We share the spring-fed pool with the local fish, some of which grow into monsters well over half a metre in length but they are completely harmless.

The gravel-bottomed pool is (like most but not all others in the area) generally very clean.

The pool as it’s own cafe (where ice-creams are cheap) and is surrounded by fields. There is also a nice stream coming off one end of the pool.

Not sure if you can see the fish in the stream photo below but they are there – lots of them.

and finally, our afternoon outing to the Ruta De La Tapa in Huescar, starting at the Huescar pool then off to the Pizza Cave on the Outskirts of Huescar and so on for more inexpensive food and drink.
