What’s this about?
This is Peter and Maureen Scargill's Spanish website. We live in Galera in Andalusia (for clarity, that is the English spelling - Mid-Spain they spell it Andalucia and pronounce it "And-a-loo-thee-a").

We've had a home in Spain for more than 14 years and it is now our permanent base though we retain a small home in the UK.

Find out more about this by reading through the blog entries, menu-accessible pages and archives if you're interested! Welcome to Peter and Maureen's Spanish website.

Overheating and OverClouding

MapWhat a day it has been so far.

So the plan was simple… lie around until Maureen was done with her keep-fit in nearby Cullar, pick her up, drive to Baza for supplies, off to the garden centre in Zujar then off to the lake for a swim.

Well, that was the plan…reality was somewhat different…

After a couple of short falls of rain over the weekend I figured we were all set for a super-sunny week and that is indeed how the day started.

I got in the car with just about enough time to pick her up and headed off to Cullar. Sunny as Hades…  and about half way through I noted a flashing light on the dash and a water temperature of 130c ! NOT GOOD.  I brought the car to a screeching halt and sat at the side of the road for a while to see if it would cool off.

Car in trouble

Sadly, even driving slowly was enough to send the temperature soaring.  I parked up, got out of the very warm car and rang Maureen to get her to bring a bottle of water (thankfully our friend Debbie was with her and had her car).  After I’d gained a good tan, they turned up and sure enough – out of water – long story but that should be the last time that happens.

El SevillanoWe headed off to Baza but of course now it was getting to be too late for the shops (2pm close).

We decided we’d have lunch, go to the lake then get the shopping in at teatime.

By the time we finished lunch, the sky had gone all murky and going for a swim was not really an option, The Chinese store and car store (radiator coolant) were closed for the afternoon – so off we went to Lidl for the week’s shopping.

Once we were done we decided just to head off home – we have a hot-tub (well, used as a cold-tub here) so that would do.

Came home, caught up on emails by which time there was a sound remarkably like constant thunder outside – surely not?

Look at the Sky

Sure enough yes, Chairs blown all of the place, you name it… the sky at this point looks like something out of one of those post-apocalyptic movies – just after WW3 – unbelievable.

So – good job we were not planning on doing anything tonight. Of course the temperature is still in the upper 20s but with that moisture, it is beginning to feel a distinctly muggy. A quiet night in then… perhaps I can chase up Maureen’s missing delivery (another winning courier story in the making)…
