What’s this about?
This is the Spanish website for Peter and Maureen Scargill. When in Spain we live in Galera in Andalusia (for clarify that is the English spelling - Mid-Spain they spell it Andalucia and pronounce it "And-a-loo-thee-a").

We've had a home in Spain for more than 14 years and right now it is pretty much our permanent base though we retain a small home in the UK.

If you're familiar with what3words (if you're not now you soon will be) we live at dossier.bath.sawn

Find out more about this by reading through the blog entries, menu-accessible pages and archives if you're interested! Welcome to Peter and Maureen's Spanish website.

Meanwhile in Galera

John and Peter

Stop press: The observant reader may notice that the blog is now forcing https: as against http: in the address bar. I’m doing this with all my sites as this simply means the site is more secure and there is no chance of any personal info spilling out. This is good for readers and good for the blog as Google are starting to “disadvantage” site that don’t do this. With luck in your address bar you’ll see a nice green lock.  Other than that it makes no difference to you whatsoever….

Right now it is Wednesday evening. Today we’ve been at the garage in Huescar getting the brakes fixed on the car after the last “improvement” made them soft as sponge. Fortunately they sorted it without blinking an eye or charging extra…

Spent part of the morning in Galera at the market – which has a markedly improved atmosphere these days and then spent the afternoon working on these blog changes and sorting today’s rather large postbag full of Chinese gadgets. Yesterday I spent the day slowly recovering from a somewhat late evening (early morning) on Monday in which we had friends over – and for the first time in too long – all of our current neighbours for drinks and nibbles. Sadly we could not invite everyone we know – any more and they’d be hanging over the wall but we’ll fix that in time. The area is wonderfully quiet now and we all spent Monday evening simply relaxing and solving the world’s problems – as you do while enjoying fine Spanish wine.

I spent most of Monday finishing off the rewiring of the pergola in preparation for the evening, while Maureen and our friend Marsha made food. The weather could not have been better for a night under the pergola, brilliant sunset and by 2.30am there was a cool breeze which would constitute fine summer weather back in the UK.

Purple Simba has again been off adventuring , only his second trip out for several days after he managed to lose a patch of hair above his eyes – I remain convinced he is no match for the local cats but he is determined to go out. Today was a milestone as he came back home at teatime without us having to call for him – a sure sign he’s getting to grips with the area. I’m so happy that he can do this now.  Lovely.

I must’ve looked like death when I got up at mid-day yesterday, as Maureen was ready for me with coffee and of all things an oxygen canister though I think that was more of a mick-take than anything else and I remain half-convinced it is nothing more than mint flavoured common or garden air but the can does say 98% pure oxygen!

We have a trip to the coast lined up for later in the week and I’m quiet looking forward to that – meanwhile I’ve just had some success at getting Maureen’s new bargain tablet running (and it is VERY fast) and spent hours in my email in-box as there was a horrifying number of emails to respond to… the nice part of that is that I now have a new new company who want to send me products to review in https://tech.scargill.net which is always nice – keeps it fresh for (amazingly) my 7,500+ subscribers.

Just heard from another friend of ours who is coming over to visit from the UK this summer – things just keep getting better (that of course was the plan but it’s nice when things work out as you hoped).
