What’s this about?
This is Peter and Maureen Scargill's Spanish website. We live in Galera in Andalusia (for clarity, that is the English spelling - Mid-Spain they spell it Andalucia and pronounce it "And-a-loo-thee-a").

We've had a home in Spain for more than 14 years and it is now our permanent base though we retain a small home in the UK.

Just another Beautiful Day in Southern Spain

Driving most of yesterday (May 11, 2022) – I drove to Alicante airport to pick up Maureen, stopping off to visit an outlet mall (which I didn’t know existed – La Noria I think, near Centro Comercial Thader) just north of Murcia to grab lunch and have a wander about in the sunshine and break up the trip.

The mall was surprisingly quiet for 1pm on a Wednesday. Distinctly ghost-town-ish but a nice stop for lunch regardless. Very clean and modern.

Orange trees at Velez-Rubio

On our way back from Alicante, having blow our usual route thanks to a massive truck hiding the turn-off (and my lack of attention) to Galera we popped into one of our favourite towns for coffee – Velez-Rubio – at a street-corner cafe who’s name escapes me on the west side of Av. De Aldalucia. There are many such cafe-bars in Velez-Rubio, a lovely town – which would be even better if the Caja Rural bank there didn’t charge for the privilage of withdrawing your own money.

I’ve taken countlesss photos of Velez-Rubio over the years but I’m still impressed for some reason by orange trees, something we don’t have a lot of in Galera.

Lots of boring jobs to do for the rest of the week so enjoying every bit of sunshine… any excuse to sit outside and do nothing but absorb the rays. Summer has been late to arrive this year but it looks like it’s here to stay.

That’s the excitement for the week. The rest is largely devoted to repairs, blogging and more sun. Guests arriving in a few days so lots to do…
