Bedrock

What a great week this has been…   on Sunday we headed off to Granada to pick up my sister-in-law Elizabeth and her husband Dale. We stopped overnight in Granada and as we’ve done before took the opportunity to experience the Flamenco dancing up at the top of the hills in Granada overlooking the Alhambra. Our visitors of course had spent the morning at the Alhambra itself.

Maureen and I arrived in Granada in the afternoon – and it was HOT – thankfully our hotel, the Five Senses Hotel (on Calle Gran Via De Colon) had a little (and I stress little) pool on the top of the building which was kept VERY cold.

Just as we were about to arrive at the hotel I spotted a little Indian dealer in Calle Elvira (I think #67 – next to Marchica Shawarma) and the first thing we did after parking the car was to go back to that store – and as I suspected she sold incense sticks – lots of them – they turned out to be winners all but for one packet which was almost empty!!!

The first thing we did after meeting our relatives in a local cafe where Maureen and I stopped for lunch, was to go and  soak in the hotel pool followed by a shopping trip in the middle of Granada – around Calle Ermita – which I have to say was excellent – in the car the town is a disaster but on foot there is just so much to see and do. 

After dinner in the shopping area of Granada – which again was excellent – we took a taxi up to the top near the Alhambra and went to a little bar which had Flamenco dancing. Elizabeth is with me on this – the singers were great, the guitar was great but at least one of the guys sounded like he was being strangled while he was singing. The next morning we headed back up to Galera but of course had to stop by at the pottery stores just off the motorway, on the way.

Much of the week was spent in pools but on Thursday we had neighbours including John and Julia who are back from their travels, over and had a tapas evening at Bedrock  which everyone agreed was marvellous – aided by the smell of the various incense sticks and a lot of fizzy wine – also a clear night for satellite and meteor watching – we all had a very good time. The ISS was kind enough to fly straight overhead which was nice.

Last night after a great if short afternoon at Orce pool with Dale, Elizabeth and our neighbours, we went off to La Alqueria for a BBQ – again excellent though we left early as I had to drive the car home and we were both tired from the week gone.

Today I’m up early as I promised to update the blog (see “beginners” page) and we’ve some weak plans to pop into Baza for some bits and pieces of shopping and no doubt to visit the pool there which I didn’t even know existed until last night.

Meanwhile the hot tub solar heating is back up and running pending a couple of temperature sensors coming from England and the dramatic heat seems to be easing up – right now at 6am (early night last night) it is a very pleasant 24c outside, hopefully it will peak at around no more than 30c today!
