What’s this about?
This is Peter and Maureen Scargill's Spanish website. We live in Galera in Andalusia (for clarity, that is the English spelling - Mid-Spain they spell it Andalucia and pronounce it "And-a-loo-thee-a").

We've had a home in Spain for more than 14 years and it is now our permanent base though we retain a small home in the UK.

Find out more about this by reading through the blog entries, menu-accessible pages and archives if you're interested! Welcome to Peter and Maureen's Spanish website.

Pizza Cave

This has been an event-filled week or so…. Friday night (1st June) we went with friends to the “Pizza Cave” in Huescar and on that Saturday, Maureen and I achieved several goals: the upstairs bedroom is now back in working order with a new ceiling, the hot tub is back in action though currently the heater is disconnected as it was tripping the 30ma mains breaker.

I tested the heating element with a meter, it looks like it should be taking somewhat under it’s 3KW spec and there is no obvious leakage to ground – I’ve been given some great hints as to how to fault-find but there’s no rush because as it happens – we’ve been also trying out a solar-hot-water heating panel for the hot tub (with a little pump) and I’m pleased to say this is capable of getting the water to 36c or more all by itself which is just fine for this time of the year. The setup is a bodge right now and I’m looking to making it semi-permanent this coming week.

Pizza Cave

We’ve been giving Simba the cat some bright purple dye medicine to stop him nibbling himself which I suspect is partly caused by having to stay in the house and listen to the animals outside. But things change and now that the place is relatively peaceful, he has at last been allowed outside. For 4 days in a row, he’s been quietly investigating the area, mostly the neighbours and I can see he’s eyeing up a second home!!!  Anyway, he (mostly) comes back when called and so that is just wonderful.

Maureen and I also been catching up on episodes of Marvel’s “Iron Fist” where our hero battles “The Hand”. All good stuff and thankfully not watered down like some similar shows. We’ve just finished the series tonight which is a shame. Hoping they do a follow up series.

MoonThe weather here has been absolutely marvellous – indeed if this keeps up it will soon be time to go off to the local lake for a plunge, indeed it was 33c today which is definitely pool weather.

Trying to ignore the political mess in the UK now – how quickly everything can go downhill.

Finished off the doors on our BBQ area, we had a nice walk down to La Posa pub and met with friends on Monday night as well as meeting people we’ve not seen before who came over for coffee the morning after and we had a nice chat. They’re not here permanently but will be back in the summer.

Also an ITV crew visited our little corner this week – Holidays in the Sun or similar and a couple of nearby caves will no doubt be featured – you’ll probably be able to see ours in the background.

Galera

Friday we had a great session with our neighbours, Saturday we walked down to the village to have dinner with some other friends at the Galera Hotel – which was really nice and today (Sunday) was largely a recovery day. We’ve some plans for this week – more on that later.

Meanwhile if any readers are thinking of taking a break in the Northeast of England – a subtle hint here as we still have one slot left at the end of June.
